Balangir: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that some influential people are left scot-free in lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case in Odisha’s Balangir, and demanded a thorough probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
BJP’s Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal during a visit to Balangir met the family members of Mamita Meher and had a discussion with them at their house on Sunday at Jharani village under Turekela block.
The lady teacher’s mother, Tulasi Meher, broke down during the discussion while recalling how her daughter had gone missing on October 8 two years ago and was subsequently found dead.
Stating that one accused in the case met a tragic death, she said another person is alive and he should be hanged to ensure justice for Mamita. A CBI probe into the whole incident is necessary to ensure justice for our daughter, she said. .
Samal said some influential persons are yet to be brought under the purview of investigation and the state government should hand over the case to the CBI. Otherwise, we would take an alternative way,” warned Samal.
It may be recalled here that Mamita of Jharni village under Turekela block in Balangir district, who worked as a teacher at Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling, had gone missing on October 8. Following a complaint by her family, police had detained Gobinda Sahu and put him at Titlagarh police barrack. However, Gobinda escaped from the police custody on October 17.
The missing teacher’s body parts were found buried in an under-construction stadium at Mahaling. Subsequently, the police announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for information on Gobinda’s whereabouts.
