Balangir: In the latest development in the Kalahandi schoolteacher Mamita Meher murder case, the Balangir police on Monday seized the JCB machine, which was used to dig up the pit, and the scooty used by prime accused Govind Sahu.
According to sources, the vehicles were seized from Mahaling in Kalahandi district and brought to the Sindhekela police station.
During the interrogation, Sahu, who is the president of the Sunshine English School managing committee, admitted having used a JCB to dig a pit in Mahaling Stadium on October 7 to bury Mamita. He used the two-wheeler to bring tyres to burn the dead schoolteacher following which the remains were buried in the pit.
While the schoolteacher went missing on October 8, her remains were exhumed from the pit on October 19. The main accused, police claimed, murdered her in his car while returning to Kegaon from Bhawanipatna following an altercation. The car was earlier seized on October 14 and an anklet and a jar containing petrol were recovered from the vehicle.
