Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday alleged that Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra was the main conspirator in the Mamita Meher murder case and should be brought under the investigation.
Alleging that the police were not investigating the case properly and adopting delaying tactics, the party demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
At a press conference here, the BJP alleged that the Minister of State for Home was the main conspirator in the murder case. State BJP president Samir Mohanty, party spokesperson Pitambar Acharya, party leader and former Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra were among those present at the press meet.
The party said that if Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wanted to prove that his government was transparent and accountable to the people of Odisha, he should hand over the case to the CBI for a fair investigation.
“We know CM Naveen’s working style from coalition of nine years. From CM’s silence, it seems he is not aware of the incident. There are serious allegations against ministers; either he is unaware or not being informed,” Mohanty said.
Questioning the police investigation, the party alleged that it was not being done properly and being deliberately delayed to shield the accused and allow them to destroy evidence. The party alleged that this was being done to protect the influential people involved in the case so that the larger conspiracy behind the murder was not exposed.
The party demanded that the Minister of State for Home should be immediately dismissed and Mishra cooperate in the probe.
