Bhubaneswar: Continuing its pressure on the state government on the murder of school teacher Mamita Meher, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to burn the effigies of minister Dibya Shankar Mishra on Monday for his alleged involvement in the case.
Speaking to the media persons on Saturday, state general secretary of BJP Prithviraj Harichandan said the women are not safe under the BJD rule in Odisha. More than one lakh women have been tortured in 21 years of administration of the present government in the state, he added.
“Chief minister Naveen Patnaik is sitting like blind king ‘Dhritarashtra’. Instead of taking action against the criminals, he is protecting them,” Harichandan said.
“BJP will not sit silent. We will continue our protest till the accused Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra in the murder case is dismissed from his post and a CBI probe is ordered into the case,” the BJP leader said.
He appealed to the people to boycott the chief minister’s visit to Kalahandi scheduled on November 8. In fact, they should boycott all his visits for the government’s insensitive approach towards the heinous crime perpetrated by a Cabinet member, Harichandan said.
Speaking on BJP’s next line of action, he said effigies of minister Mishra will be burnt at 314 places across the state on Monday.
It may be noted that the BJP, which has been holding protests and demonstrations across the state on the issue, had threatened to gherao the police stations in all districts. The party has accused the minister of having close connection with prime accused Govind Sahu in the murder of teacher Mamita Meher of Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district.
