Cuttack: The state government, which has been pushed to a corner in the alleged murder of schoolteacher Mamita Meher with the clamour for the scalps of two ministers getting shriller, found itself in the dock as a PIL was filed in the Orissa High Court seeking CBI probe into the matter.
The PIL filed by social organisation Bharatiya Bikash Parishad, has also sought Rs 50 lakh as compensation for Mamita’s family. The state and Central governments have been made parties in the case.
Earlier, condemning the murder of the woman teacher in Mahaling of Kalahandi district in a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma highlighted that ministers Dibya Shankar Mishra and Pratap Jena were using their “mighty positions for exploiting and sexually harassing women and manipulating police investigation in the case”.
Sharma also requested the chief minister to personally take cognisance of the case and remove both the ministers to enable the police to conduct a fair and just investigation without any undue influence.

Besides the NCW, opposition BJP and Congress have also demanded the resignation of the two ministers. BJP had called Kalahandi bandh on Tuesday and has also issued a call for Balangir bandh on Friday to press its demand.
The prime suspect in the case, Govind Sahu, who is the president of the management committee of the Sunshine English English Medium School where Mamita was working, has confessed to have committed the crime.
