Man Abandons Wife After ‘Selling Kidney’ Without Her Knowledge In Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A woman of Kodameta village in Malkangiri district alleged that her husband sold one of her kidneys without her knowledge.

The woman, identified as Ranjita Kundu, lodge a complaint in this regard at Model police station here on Wednesday.

According to sources, Ranjita’s husband, Prasant Kundu persuaded and took her to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for a blood test after she developed stones in 2018.

Thereafter, he allegedly sold one of her kidneys to one Asim Haldar of MV 38 village of Malkangiri for transplant without her knowledge and consent. “The check-up reports later revealed that one of my kidneys was removed,” she alleged.

“My husband left me after selling the kidney and now when he is planning to remarry soon, I have come to the police for justice. I demand stringent punishment for my husband and sister-in-law Seema Nandi, who was also involved in this incident,” said Ranjita to the media.

Meanwhile, Sarat Buruda, a social worker who had accompanied Ranjita to the police station said that Prasanta took her forcibly and sold one of her kidneys using fake documents.
