Phulbani: A man and his four friends have been arrested for the alleged gangrape-murder of his sister at Chakapad in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

According to reports, the accused plotted the gangrape-murder with his friends when his sister threatened to expose his illicit relationship with his sister-in-law if he did not end it. On November 3, he called his friends to a nearby forest, where the 25-year-old woman was collecting Siali leaves. He then got them drunk and under the influence of alcohol, they took turns in raping her. “When the woman fought back, they strangulated her, and then attacked her with an axe, killing her on the spot,” Chakapad police station IIC Lalit Mohan Sagar told PTI.

He further said that the brother lodged a missing person’s complaint with police on November 6 and the decomposed body was recovered from the forest the following day. The postmortem examination revealed that she was gang raped and then killed, he added.
