Rourkela: In yet another incident of human-animal conflict, a youth
was trampled to death by a wild tusker at Kultuli slum in Jharbeda
village under in Sundararh district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Naveen Karketta.
The animal strayed into the human settlements in search of food.
Later, it damaged Karketta’s house and attacked him while while
sleeping.
Being informed about the incident, forest personnel and police rushed
to the spot to take stock of the situation.
On Wednesday night, a similar incident was reported from Katepur under
Bisra police limits in the district when a man identified as George
Lugun died after being attacked by an elephant. The incident took
place when Lugun went nearer to the tusker while trying to drive it
away from the locality with the help of local people and forest
officials.
