Koraput: Police have arrested a man for allegedly duping tribals on the plea of issuing driving licence (DL) in Odisha’s Koraput district.
Speaking to the media on the arrest on Saturday, Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhisek Behera said the man, identified as 29-year-old Mahendra Khemudu of Bariniput village under Jeypore Sadar police limits, posed himself as an agent of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) and was operating in Baipariguda, Kundura, Lamataput, Majhiguda and Nandapur.
He promised the tribals of the area that he would help them get the DL issued from the RTO without test. He gave them duplicate DL after taking money towards processing charge. He has already cheated more than 100 people this way, said the SDPO.
However, some people of Majhiguda, who had taken the DLs from Mahendra, checked those through online process and came to know that those were duplicates. They filed a complaint at Baipariguda police station in this regard.
Following investigation, the police arrested Mahendra and forwarded him to court on Saturday, said the SDPO.
