Cuttack: A 45-year-old man, who had allegedly consumed poison inside the premises of Niali police station recently in protest against his arrest on illegal liquor trade charges, died at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday.
According to sources, the Niali police had recently arrested Ashok Das, a resident of Niali market area, for his alleged involvement in illegal liquor trade. He was later sent to jail.
After staying in jail for 12 days, Ashok was released on June 17.
Protesting against his arrest, Ashok went to the Niali police station on June 21 and drank poison. He was immediately rushed to the SCB where he died on Tuesday afternoon.
