Nabarangpur: Police on Tuesday arrested a man, who allegedly killed his minor stepson by spiking his cough syrup at Jadapara colony under Raighar block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
The accused has been identified as Biswanath Gond of Amabeda village.. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by his wife and the mother of the deceased, Gayarti Gond, with whom he tied the nuptial knot about three months ago.
According to the complainant, Gayatri asked her husband to fetch a cough syrup when the three-year-old started coughing this morning. The toddler, however, died within hours of taking the medicine.
After learning about the incident, medical officer of Hatabharandi Hospital visited Gayatri’s house. He found something unusual about the death and informed Kundei police.
Later, Gayatri lodged a police complaint, alleging that the cough syrup was laced with something poisonous.
A police team led by IIC Prashant Kumar Sethi seized the body for postmortem and the cough syrup bottle.
