Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested by the police in Bhubaneswar for allegedly posing as a doctor and duping a woman of a huge amount of money in a fraudulent manner.
The accused, identified as Saroj Mishra alias Siddharth Shankar, was apprehended by a team of Mancheswar police station following allegation of defrauding a woman working at a private medical college as a medical officer.
As per information, the accused had come in contact with the woman through a m
atrimonial website, where he introduced himself as a doctor working in Pune. By presenting a fake professional identity, he had gained the trust of the woman and her family members.
After winning the woman’s confidence, the accused had allegedly sought money, claiming it was required for the last rites of his friend’s mother. The woman reportedly transferred him Rs 1.30 lakh in three instalments online. When she later asked him to return the money, the accused allegedly threatened her with dire consequences.
Based on a complaint lodged by the woman at Mancheswar police station, an investigation was launched and the accused arrested. Probe by the police revealed that he is not a qualified doctor and has multiple previous cases registered against him. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more people were duped by him using similar methods.
