Man Arrested For Posing As NIA Officer In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested by the police in Bhubaneswar on Friday for allegedly posing as a National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer in Odisha’s capital city on Friday.

He was apprehended at Kharavela Nagar police station, where he was allegedly trying to pressurize officers for action in a case.

According to sources, the accused reached t

he police station and urged officers to act fast in a case filed by his female friend. He told police that he was an NIA officer and showed a fake identity card. He had arrived in what looked like a police vehicle, bearing Tamil Nadu number plate as well as stickers of Government of India and Ministry of Home Affairs on it. His behavior created suspicion and cops contacted the regional NIA office to verify his identity.

The regional NIA office confirmed that the man was a fraud, which led to his arrest. His vehicle, two mobile phones as well as documents, identity card, a sword and two knives have been seized from him.

“When we contacted NIA, they said they do not make such t-shirts. We suspect he must have cheated several persons. He will be taken into custody and questioned,” twin city police commissioner S Dev Datta Singh told media.

Further investigation is underway into his act of cheating more people for monetary gains using the fraudulent identity of a government official.
