Man Arrested For Smoking Beedi Aboard Kolkata-Bound Flight From Surat, Know How Was He Caught

Surat: A passenger aboard a Kolkata-bound flight travelling from Surat was arrested for smoking a ‘beedi’ inside the aircraft’s restroom before takeoff, reports claimed. The passenger was identified as Ashok Bishwas, a Bengal native residing in Gujarat’s Navsari for work. The incident took place on Thursday.

Bishwas managed to carry beedis and a matchbox onto the flight despite the necessary security checks. The flight was delayed due to technical issues. It had not taken off when an air hostess noticed the smell of smoke coming from the restroom. She alerted the senior executive at the airport. This prompted an inspection.

Upon checking, beedis and a matchbox were found in Bishwas’ bag. He was thus removed from the flight. The airline reported the incident to the Dumus police. The cops then arrested him after registering a case under Section 125 of BNS for endangering the lives of other passengers. While no official statement has been issued by the airline, its senior executive has filed a formal complaint with the authorities, reported the India Today.
