Man Arrested For Thrashing Friend To Death In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested by the police on Wednesday for allegedly thrashing his friend to death following a verbal duel in Siripur area of Bhubaneswar.

The accused, identified as Vikas Mohapatra, was arrested by the Khandagiri Police in connection with the murder of Amit Kanungo.

Police said the diseased was working in a Cooperative Bank and the accused, who ran a betel shop in Siripur area, had borrowed some money from him.

Amit had gone to the shop of accused along with one Laxmidhar Nayak to get back the money he had lent to Vikas. During the conversation, a scuffle ensued and Vikas bashed them both badly and they lost their consciousness. Locals called for the ambulance and Nayak was taken to Capital Hospital and subsequently to SCB Medical College in Cuttack.

In the meanwhile, Vikas called the spouse of Amit and told her that her husband is lying on the road in an inebriated condition. The family members of the diseased took him to Capital Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police registered case on the basis of the statement of the Medical Officer and filed a case against Vikas. Further investigation is going on.
