Jagatsinghpur: Odisha Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Korania village under Naugaon tehsil in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district for allegedly posting provocative and objectionable comments against Prophet Muhammad and Mahatma Gandhi on social media.
The accused was identified as Jayaprakash Mohanty, a contractual worker in a reputed company in Paradip town.
According to sources, members of the local community group took up the matter with the police after Mohanty’s objectionable Facebook post against Prophet Muhammad as well as the Muslim community went viral. Besides, he also drafted disparaging words about Mahatma Gandhi.
Thereafter, an officer in the Naugaon police station, Raghunath Tudu, registered a case suo motu against Mohanty under Sections 153(A), 295(A), 505 of the IPC and section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 on Wednesday.
Following this, he was arrested and produced in court.
