New York: An Arizona resident who threatened on social media to kill former President Donald Trump has been arrested, reported Reuters.
Trump, Republican nominee for president in the November election, was in Cochise County on Thursday when he visited the US border with Mexico as part of his campaign.
The accused, 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud, had several outstanding warrants from Wisconsin, the the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said.
Syvrud was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon and booked into the Cochise County Jail on a felony warrant from Graham County in Arizona for “failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of threatening for this case,” the sheriff’s office added.
He will be in custody pending further court adjudication.
“I am not that surprised (by the threat) and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys,” Trump said when asked about the latest threat against Presidential candidates.
Early thus month, a Virginia man was charged with threatening Vice-President Kamala Harris, Trump’s Democratic rival. A New Hampshire man was arrested in December for threatening to kill Republican presidential candidates.
In July, Trump was shot in the ear in an attempted assassination that left two others injured and one man dead.
Despite the US Secret Service coming under close scrutiny and leading to the resignation of the agency’s director, Trump said on Friday he has “great respect” for the Secret Service and “the job they do.”
