Cuttack: A young man allegedly attempted to commit self-immolation for police inaction on his complaint in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Thursday.
According to sources, the youth, identified as Gunanidhi Bisoi of Salepur area in the district, had filed a complaint at Kishannagar police station regarding land dispute about a week back. Since the dispute escalated and the police did not take any step on his complaint, he had gone to the police station to enquire about it on the day.
He enquired about the complaint and sought police intervention to resolve the land dispute. But, he reportedly did not get any satisfactory response from the police.
Apparently disturbed by the dispute and feeling helpless for police inaction, Gunanidhi poured petrol on himself and set fire in front of the police station.
However, the local people and personnel from the police station doused the fire and rushed him in an ambulance to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The hospital sources said his condition was critical.
