Nuapada: A man allegedly attempted self-immolation in front of the Tehsil office in Odisha’s Nuapada on Thursday over some land related issue.
Sources said the man poured petrol over his body and set fire. He was rescued by locals and immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla where his condition was stated to be critical.
The man, identified as Jagdish Chauhan of Kalyanpur village under Nuapada Sadar Tehsil, had reportedly visited the Tehsil office in connection with some work related to land issues in the afternoon. It is not known as to what transpired in the Tehsil office before he moved out of the building.
However, the circumstances in which he moved out of the office building and took the extreme step are yet to be ascertained.
