Bhadrak: A court in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife around eight years ago.
Pronouncing the verdict, additional district and sessions judge Asish Kumar Tripathy found accused Kailash Barik of Kesharpur under Bansada police limits guilty of killing his wife for dowry on April 9, 2015.
Kailash was tried and convicted under multiple sections of IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on him. In case of failure to pay the penalty, the convict will have to undergo additional jail term for 3 months.
According to the case diary, Kailash had married Gourilata Barik of Chandbali area in the same district in 2014. After marriage, he had been physically and mentally torturing his wife over more dowry. On April 9, 2015, Kailash had beaten Gourilata before strangulating her to death with a piece of plastic rope.
The family of the deceased had filed a complaint against the accused at Chandbali police station. Kailash was arrested later.
