Koraput: The in-law family of a married man thrashed him mercilessly in public glare till he fell unconscious for allegedly torturing their daughter for dowry in the district.

According police sources, the man, identified as Lucky Khara of Malimarua village fell in love with a woman of Maligunja village under Semiliguda police limits. They got married with the permission of their families as per the tradition six months back.

Soon after their marriage, Lucky started torturing his wife for dowry. Unable to bear the torture, his wife had gone back to her parents’ house a few days back.

On Saturday, Lucky had gone to his in-law’s house in Malugunja and requested them to allow him to take his wife with assurance that he would not torture her.

While the couple were returning, Lucky stopped at a place and allegedly assaulted his wife. He also left her alone at the place and went to his house. Getting the information, the woman’s family members rushed to the spot and brought her home.

Later, they went to Malumarua, dragged Lucky out of his house and took him to their village where they beat him up black and blue. A video of the thrashing has gone viral in the social media.

On being informed, Semiliguda police went to Maligunja and rescued Lucky in unconscious condition. Further investigation is on.
