Mayurbhanj: A 40-year-old man on Tuesday surrendered before police in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district after allegedly beheading his father for refusing to give him Rs 10 to buy ‘gutkha’, a tobacco product.
The deceased has been identified as Baidhar Singh (70).
According to reports, the accused son beheaded his father with a sharp weapon following a heated exchange of words. He then surrendered at Chandua police station along with the severed head even as his mother fled the spot. “The murder occurred over a petty issue. The accused became angry when his father refused to pay Rs 10 for ‘gutkha’,” Baripada SDPO Pravat Mallick told PTI.
Police later reached the village along with a forensic team and began an investigation.
