Keonjhar: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly murdered his sister-in-law and raped his mother-in-law in Kiriburu area under Balani police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday night.
According to sources, Rupa Singh Sidhu, his sister-in-law Mariam Hasa and mother-in-law Phulamani Hasa of Murgapada village had gone to a nearby hill forest to collect wild mushrooms and Kurkuti (red ants) on Sunday afternoon.
On their way back home, Rupa had an altercation with Mariam. Enraged, he killed her with an axe and dumped her beheaded body in a 200 ft stone quarry pit. Before fleeing the area, he raped his mother-in-law after tying her hands with a towel.
The victim later lodged a complaint in Kiriburu outpost near the Odisha-Jharkhand border. Acting on the complaint, Kiriburu police rushed to the spot on Monday and informed the Balani Police.
Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
It may be mentioned here that as the Kiriburu outpost under the jurisdiction of Balani police has remained non-functional, people living near the Jharkhand border, usually lodge complaints in Kiriburu police station in Jharkhand. On receiving a complaint, the Kiriburu police refer it to Balani police for investigation.
