New Delhi: Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport intercepted a male passenger attempting to smuggle assorted yellow metal cut pieces and a chain, totalling 172 grams, by concealing those inside dates.
The incident took place on Wednesday at the Green Channel exit.
The passenger was a 56-year-old Indian man who had travelled from Jeddah to Delhi on flight SV-756. âDuring the X-ray scan of the baggage, suspicious images were noticed. Additionally, when the passenger passed through the Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD), a strong beep sound was heard,â Delhi Customs posted on X.
A detailed luggage inspection then led to the discovery of gold cleverly hidden inside dates.
Customs officials have seized the smuggled gold and launched an investigation into the passengerâs possible links with any smuggling networks.
