Baripada: Participation in an eating competition reportedly turned fatal for a man in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The man reportedly choked to death during a ‘gulgula’ eating challenge at a village in Morada block of the district on Sunday.
The man has been identified as Shirish Chandra Mahanayak (42) of Dantiamunha village in the block, sources said.
As per reports, Shrish had gone to a weekly haat where he met some friends at a roadside eatery. During conversation, he took up a friendly eating challenge and swallowed four gulgulas (Indian fried doughnut) and a malpua at once.
However, he suddenly choked and started suffocating. Noticing that his breathing difficulty was escalating, locals rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
After getting information about the incident, a team of police personnel visited the place and launched an investigation. They have registered a case of unnatural death and probe is underway, the sources added.
