Man Climbs 50-Ft High-Voltage Tower In Odisha’s Cuttack, Rescued After Tense Negotiation

Cuttack: A tense rescue operation unfolded in Odisha’s Cuttack on Tuesday when a 30-year-old man climbed a high-voltage 33kV power transmission tower at Poparada under Madhupatna police limits, triggering panic among local residents.

The man, identified as Naresh Marandi, scaled the tower to a height of approximately 50 feet, drawing a crowd of onlookers concerned

about a possible tragedy.

On being informed, Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a well-coordinated rescue mission. One fire officer climbed the tower to counsel and engage with Marandi directly, while a ground team stood ready below with a safety net as a precaution. After prolonged negotiation and persuasion, the man agreed to come down. Two firefighters made him wear safety gear before carefully bringing him down without any injuries or untoward incident.

Post-rescue, Marandi was reported to be in a stable physical condition, though visibly distressed.

He was later handed him over to police for further inquiry to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. It is being suspected that he is suffering from some mental illness.
