Man Critical After Assault At In-Laws’ House In Odisha’s Kendrapada

Kendrapada: A family dispute took a violent turn when a man was allegedly tied up and brutally attacked at his in-laws’ house in a village in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.

Sources said the man, identified as Sudarshan Sethi of Alaile village under Mahakalapada police limits in the district, was critically injured in the assault.

The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday at his in-laws’ house in Sekpur area under the jurisdiction of Pattamundai Police Station of Kendrapada.

Grievously injured in the attack, Sudarshan was initially admitted to Pattamundai Hospital and later shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

Locals said Sudarshan had married Purnima Sethi of Bandhasahi village

under Pattamundai police limits around three years ago. However, differences reportedly surfaced between the two after a year of marriage, leading to frequent disputes.

Following a fresh altercation between the two, Purnima had reportedly left for her parental house four days ago. On Monday, Sudarshan went there to meet his wife along with two other youths.

It was alleged that Sudarshan, who was highly intoxicated, created a ruckus at the in-laws’ house. Following heated exchanges, his in-laws and some neighbours allegedly tied his hands and legs with ropes and assaulted him.

It was later found that Sudarshan had allegedly consumed some poisonous seeds along with alcohol. His wife then took him to Pattamundai Hospital for treatment. He was later shifted to Cuttack after his condition became critical.

Meanwhile, Sudarshan’s sister Kandhei Sethi lodged a complaint at Pattamundai police station, alleging that her brother was brutally assaulted.

Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Pattamundai police station, Bandana Patra said a case has been registered on the basis of the complaint, and an investigation has been launched.
