Bhubaneswar: A man was critically injured after being attacked by a group of miscreants with sharp weapons near Airport Square in Bhubaneswar, where security has been tightened by the Commissionerate Police for Christmas celebration.
As per preliminary information, the miscreants armed with sharp weapons mounted an attack on the victim near Airport Square on Sunday night, inflicting grievous injuries on his head, chest and other parts of the body.
The victim, identified as Madan Maharana alias Shiva, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack for treatment.
Sources said over 25 miscreants chased and attacked Shiva following an argument, while another youth who was accompanying the victim, managed to escape unhurt.
Shiva was rescued by locals and rushed to the Capital Hospital. Later, he was shifted to SCBMCH as his condition deteriorated.
The police believe that the attack was a result of an old enmity involving a dispute over a plot of land. Meanwhile, police have launched a massive operation to trace and nab the culprits.
