Bhadrak: In a glaring case of inhumanity, a man deserted his old mother near the Aahaar Kendra in Chandbali in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
Finding the hapless woman crying on Monday night, some locals informed the police and the Fire Brigade. But as they did not respond, some mediapersons, who came to know about the incident, informed the local tehsildar, Satyajit Mohanty. He rushed to the spot and admitted her to the community health centre (CHC).
The old woman, identified herself as Kuntala Pothal and said she was a native of Mahulia village under Chandbali police limits. However, she had left her village several years back with her husband and shifted to Kendrapara to live with her son Arjun and daughter-in-law Kali.
“After my husband’s death, my son and daughter-in-law began torturing me physically. Yesterday, my son and daughter-in-law brought me to a place at Chandbali and left me alone. I waited for them for the whole day. Where shall I go? How shall I live?” she said with tears rolling down.
After coming to know about the incident from the media, the Orissa High Court directed the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Sunita Rout to get details about the woman’s health condition. Rout, who met the woman said, “Steps will be taken to immediately rehabilitate her after her health improves,” she told the media later.
