Berhampur: A day after a woman teacher and her two sons died due to suspected food poisoning at a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district, her husband was detained by the police on Tuesday as part of the probe to ascertain the exact cause of the death.
Sources said the deceased teacher’s husband, identified as Prashant Dakua, was detained by the police for questioning in connection with the incident that took place on Monday at Sriramnagar under the jurisdiction of Sheragada police station.
As the death of the three appeared to have taken place under mysterious circumstances, efforts are being made to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident. The husband of the woman teacher is being interrogated to gather certain information, they said.
Notably, the woman and her two sons died due to suspected ‘food poisoning’ at Sriramnagar on Monday after they complained of vomiting and nausea following dinner the previous night. The deceased have been identified as Sabitri Dakua, a teacher at Sheragada Mahatma Gandhi High School and her two sons.
Her husband and mother-in-law also fell ill, but they are stable.
According to sources, the family members went to sleep after having their dinner late Sunday night. However, they complained of vomiting and diarrhoea soon after. Other family members took them to Sheragada Community Health Centre (CHC).
However, the woman and her two sons died while undergoing treatment at the hospital, the sources added.
