Dhenkanal: Agitated people set a bus on fire after the vehicle allegedly killed a bike rider by riding over him in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the incident took place when the victim, identified as Mukund Sahu of Sirimula village under Tumusinga police station, was returning home on his bike from Rekula village. As Mukund reached Jadapal square on the main road of Kamakshyanagar town, the private bus going from Dhenkanal to Jagamohanpur hit him from behind.
When Mukund fell down on the impact, the bus, which was going on a high speed, ran over him. Mukund died on the spot.
Local people immediately stopped the bus and staged a demonstration on the spot in protest against the incident. The movement of vehicular traffic was disrupted due to the protest. Even as police from Kamakshyanagar could reach there after being informed about the agitation, the agitated locals set the bus on fire.
However, the police managed to restore normalcy in the area and traffic movement resumed. They have sent Mukund’s body for post-mortem and launched an investigation after registering a case.
