Balangir: After Nabarangpur in Odisha, Balangir reported death of a man allegedly due to wrong injection administered by a quack.
According to sources, Shiva Mahananda of Chanabahal village under Muribahal police limits in the district was cutting wood in his house with an axe when he accidentally injured his leg on Sunday. As he started bleeding profusely, he told his wife Surubali Mahananda to call the quack, Pramod Mahakud from neighbouring village.
Pramod checked Shiva and administered an injection to him. But Shiva lost consciousness after some tome and his family members rushed him to a hospital at Kantabanji in the district. The doctors in the hospital him announced him brought dead.
On being informed, a team from Kantabanji police station came to the hospital and sent the body for post-mortem.
Shiva’s wife told the police that her husband died because due to the wrong injection administered the quack by Shiva. “I had called Pramod, who carries out treatment of patients in our neighbouring village, after my husband injured himself. Pramod administered an injection. My husband did not have any ailment earlier. We suspect that he died because of wrong injection,” she said.
The Dr Debadutta Kumar, who was on duty at Kantabanji hospital, said Shiva’s family claimed that Pramod had administered a tetanus toxoide injection. But the patient had already died before being brought to the hospital. The cause of death would be known after the post-mortem, he added.
In a similar incident in Nabarangpur, a woman died after a quack administered an injection on November 13. The woman, Dayamani Bisoi (55) of Chirma village under Kosagumuda block of the district, fell sick with complaint of headache. Her husband Buxi Bisoi took her to the quack Samaru Harijan in Karchamal village.
Harijan examined Dayamani and administered an injection to her. Some time after taking the injection, the condition of Dayamani worsened. Before Buxi could take her to a doctor, she died in the house of Harijan.
