Bhadrak: A man died and another person sustained critical injuries after an 11-KV electric wire snapped and fell on them near Panikoili Chhak on Chandbal-Bhadrak road on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Santanu Patra, a carpenter by profession and a resident of Panchutikri village in the district.
According to sources, Patra was going somewhere on a motorcycle along with his associate when the high tension electric wire suddenly snapped and fell on them. He died on the spot while his associate was rescued by locals and rushed to a Chandbali community health centre hospital for treatment.
Following the mishap, an irate mob gathered near the spot and blocked the Bhadrak-Chandbali main road demanding adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased.
They held the local electrical department responsible for the incident and alleged that inferior quality wires have been used for power services.
The blockade was later withdrawn after Chandbali police reached the place and managed to pacify the agitators after assuring them that their demands will be considered.
