Jagatsinghpur: An inmate of a drug rehabilitation centre was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday, with his family alleging foul play in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Anurodh Lenka from Nagapur village in Koraput district.
His family members alleged that the man was subjected to physical torture at the rehabilitation centre, which led to his sudden death. The incident has sparked outrage
among relatives and local residents, who demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to family members, Anurodh became seriously ill and he died while being taken to hospital.
After receiving the information, the Sadar police in Jagatsinghpur registered a case and acted swiftly. The owner of Swadhar Drug Rehabilitation Centre was taken into custody for questioning following the allegations by the family members.
Abinash Lenka, the deceased man’s son, claimed that there were signs of wounds and injury marks all over his body. Given my father’s condition, he shouldn’t have died. “The government should take action against the guilty, and police should also take action,” he said.
Sources said police are now investigating the circumstances of Anurodh’s death, including alleged negligence and mistreatment at the rehabilitation centre.
