Balasore: An elderly man died and his grandson sustained serious injuries after a swarm of bees attacked them in Nilagiri area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Ramachadra Shaw, while his ten-year-old grandson was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
According to sources, Ramachandra was cleaning the backyard of his house while his grandson was playing near him. When he set fire to a heap of dry leaves and other stuff in the backyard, a swarm of bees suddenly appeared and unleashed an attack.
Both Ramachandra and his grandson, who faced severe bee attack, were immediately rushed to the hospital at Nilagiri. While the elderly man was declared dead by the doctors, the boy is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
In a similar incident, 18 persons were injured after a swarm of bees attacked them at Karanja village in Kalyansinghpur block of Rayagada district, sources said.
