Man Dies Minutes After Taking Antibiotic Injection In Odisha’s Khurda

Khurda: A man reportedly died minutes after taking an anti-biotic injection in a government hospital in Odisha’s Khurda district on Saturday.

As per reports, Pandav Nayak of Kolathadiha village under Banpur police station in the district had gone for treatment of a wound in his hand to government hospital at Banpur. The doctor in the hospital checked the wound and prescribed application of antibiotic injection Ceftriaxone injection for treatment of bacterial infection.

The nurses of the hospital cleaned the wound of Pandav and administered the prescribed the injection. But a few minutes after, Pnadav collapsed in the hospital and died. As the news of Pandav’s death spread, the villagers gathered at the hospital and created a ruckus accusing the hospital staff of negligence.

On being informed, police went to the hospital and pacified the agitated villagers. They also seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.

Pandav’s wife lodged a complaint at Banpur police station alleging that her husband died due to wrong treatment by the hospital staff. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Admitting Pandav’s death after taking the injection, medical superintendent Ramakant Nayak said exact cause of the death would be known after getting the post-mortem report.

“The injection may have a side effect on the patient. He should have been tested before application of the injection. We have ordered a special investigation into the matter and sent the injection bottle for laboratory test,” he added.
