Khurda: A man reportedly died minutes after taking an anti-biotic injection in a government hospital in Odisha’s Khurda district on Saturday.
As per reports, Pandav Nayak of Kolathadiha village under Banpur police station in the district had gone for treatment of a wound in his hand to government hospital at Banpur. The doctor in the hospital checked the wound and prescribed application of antibiotic injection Ceftriaxone injection for treatmen
t of bacterial infection.
The nurses of the hospital cleaned the wound of Pandav and administered the prescribed the injection. But a few minutes after, Pnadav collapsed in the hospital and died. As the news of Pandav’s death spread, the villagers gathered at the hospital and created a ruckus accusing the hospital staff of negligence.
On being informed, police went to the hospital and pacified the agitated villagers. They also seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Pandav’s wife lodged a complaint at Banpur police station alleging that her husband died due to wrong treatment by the hospital staff. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Admitting Pandav’s death after taking the injection, medical superintendent Ramakant Nayak said exact cause of the death would be known after getting the post-mortem report.
“The injection may have a side effect on the patient. He should have been tested before application of the injection. We have ordered a special investigation into the matter and sent the injection bottle for laboratory test,” he added.
