Dhenkanal: A man died while his son sustained critical injuries after being brutally attacked by some people at Krushnaprasad village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Chaturbhuja Jena. His 18-year-old son, Om Prakash Jena, with multiple injuries was initially taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Cuttack for better treatment.
Sources attributed the attack to a bid to open a boiler centre on a piece of government land.
The dispute began around 6 months back when Chaturbhuja and his son were stopped by some people from Krushnaprasad and Jhumpudia villages while setting up a boiler unit. Last night, Chaturbhuja got to know that his rivals are attempting to do the same and confronted them, leading to a heated exchange of words.
Villagers intervened and prevented the situation from escalating, Chaturbhuja’s brother Gatikrushna Jena told the media.
However, the group later returned and attacked Chaturbhuja’ with sharp weapons. Om Prakash sustained multiple injuries while trying to save his father, he added.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the locality. Bhapur outpost police have started an investigation into matter, sources added.
