Man Dies After Being Sucked Into Open Drain In Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: An elderly man died after he accidentally fell into an open drain near Banadurga Temple in Unit VI area here on Monday evening.

He was identified as Harihar Patnaik, a resident of Unit-VI.

According to sources, he was unable to spot an open drain while walking on a water-logged road and fell into it. He was swept away in the drain filled with rainwater and rescued by fire services personnel near Ganga Nagar Square, around 400 metres from the spot of the mishap.

The elderly was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital, but died while undergoing treatment.

Open drains in this Smart City pose a threat to denizens with road being waterlogged during monsoon.
