Koraput: A man died while preparing for the last rites of his father at Kamta village under Borigumma block in Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Benudhar Mandal.

According to sources, his father Laxmana Mandal died while undergoing treatment at Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College Hospital in Koraput around 5 am. The body was then brought back to the village for the last rites. Benudhar was in backyard of his house when a tree fell on him, owing to incessant rain in the area. He sustained head injuries and was rushed to Community Health Centre at Borigumma, where doctors declared him dead.

A pall of gloom has descended on the village following the death of father-son duo within few hours.

Notably, Koraput has been witnessing heavy rain under the influence of a cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal, which made landfall along Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday afternoon.
