Bhubaneswar: Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly duping his neighbour of over Rs 16 lakh on pretext of high returns in the city.
According to Badagada Police, the accused, Chittaranjan Samal and the complainant, Siba Kumar Mohapatra are neighbours in Gatikrushna Villa at Tankapani Road and there was a good relation between both the families.
Taking advantage of his closeness, Chittaranjan, who runs a wholesale grocery business, induced Siba to invest money in his business assuring him of huge profit. Attracted by the alluring returns, Siba gave his neighbour Rs 16,90,000 in instalments.
A few days after, Chittaranjan fled from the locality without returning money to Siba. Though Chittaranjan could contact Siba and demanded his money, the latter did not return the amount.
Subsequently, Siba lodged a complaint at Badagada police station. Following investigation on the basis of the complaint, police arrested Chittaranjan who belongs to Bantala under Mahanga police limits of Cuttack district.
