Bhawanipatna: A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a canal in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Sunday.
As per reports, the man, identified as Dingar Hati of Ainlajor village under Dharamgarh police station in the district, left his house on a bike for ‘mandi’ (paddy procurement centre) on Saturay afternoon. But he did not return home till late night.
Worried by the delay in his return, Dingar’s family tried to contact him over phone but failed to contact him. The family members along with some villagers also went in search of him in nearby areas but could not trace him.
On Sunday morning, when some villagers had gone to take bath in Indravati canal near the village, they found Dingar lying dead. His motorcycle was also in the canal near his body.
On being informed, a team from Dharamgarh police station went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. They have registered a case and started investigation.
Meanwhile, Dingar’s family alleged that he was murdered. His brother Kunu Hati said, “My brother had gone to mandi yesterday. Today, he was found dead in the canal. We suspect that he has been killed by somebody though he did not have enmity with anybody.”
Stating that Dingar’s wife and two minor daughters would face a tough life ahead, he demanded the persons responsible for his brother’s death to be punished.
