Berhampur: A man was found hanging in the official residence of an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at Kudutuli village under K Nuagaon police station in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Monday.
While the deceased has been identified as Jagannath Behera of Banamalipur, the ANM was rescued with head injuries and admitted to a hospital.
Sources said the incident occurred when Jagannath, who knew the ANM for past four years, traveled to her house from Bhubaneswar in a motorcycle. Neighbours rushed to the house on hearing commotion and found Jagannath’s body and the ANM lying in a pool of blood.
On being informed, K Nuagaon police rushed the ANM to a local hospital and sent Jagannath’s body for autopsy.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jagannath killed himself after assaulting the ANM. The exact reason behind the incident can be ascertained after the ANM regains consciousness, police said.
Behera’s family said that he left home early in the morning, saying that he was travelling to Joda, where he once worked in mines, to collect some payment. His brother Anadi Charan denied being privy to any relationship between the two.
