Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha police has arrested a man from Bihar while he was carrying more than 10 quintal of ganja in a vehicle in Bhubaneswar.
Acting on intelligence input that a Hywa truck was carrying the contraband, a team of STF personnel conducted a raid on National Highway-16 near Tamando Crossing in the city on Friday evening.
They intercepted the Hywa and during search, ganja weighing 1010 kg (more than 10 quintal) was found concealed in a secret chamber of the vehicle. The vehicle along the contraband ganja has been seized.
The team also arrested Hywa driver, identified as 28-year-old Rajesh Singh of Haradian under Jagadishpur police station of Arra district in Bihar. He has admitted that he was carrying the ganja to Jharkhand and Bihar, but could not produce document from valid authority in support of possession of the contraband.
The STF has registered a Case under NDPS Act 1985 in this connection and further investigation is on.
