Bhadrak: A special POCSO court in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually exploiting a minor girl on the promise of marrying her.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, identified as Ratikant Nayak (33) of Tambakhandi village under the jurisdiction of Naikanidihi police station in the district.
In case of non-payment of the fine amount, he will have to undergo an additional jail term for six months.
As per prosecution, Nayak had established physical relation with the 15-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her. As he later refused to marry the girl, she lodged a complaint against him with the police in May, 2014.
On the basis of the complaint, police had arrested Nayak and produced him before court.
