Man Gets 10-Year Jail Term For Raping Tourist In Odisha’s Rayagada



Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha’s Rayagada sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for ten years for raping a woman tourist around four months ago.

The curt of the Additional District Judge delivered the verdict within 120 days of the incident, marking a significant example of fast-track justice under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The court, which imposed

a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, also directed financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the survivor.

As per case records, the incident took place on November 18, 2025, when the victim and her husband were waiting in Rayagada to return to Koraput. The accused lured them to his residence in Rayot Colony under the pretext of providing accommodation and later assaulted the woman.

Based on the woman’s complaint, police acted swiftly and arrested the accused. Investigators collected strong evidence and filed the chargesheet within the stipulated time. The court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence today.

Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania congratulated the Rayagada SP, the government lawyer, and the investigating officer for their efforts.
