Cuttack: A man was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years by a court in Odisha’s Cuttack for kidnapping and raping a minor girl of Khuntuni area of the district three years ago.
The Cuttack Special POCSO Adhoc Court, while pronouncing the jail term for Pakulu Samardh for committing the crime in 2020, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo imprisonment for one more year.
According to the case record, in November 2020 Pakulu Samardh kidnapped and raped a minor girl in Khuntuni police limits of the district.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed in Khuntuni police station and police after registering an FIR arrested the accused.
The court pronounced its verdict after examining depositions of 12 witnesses and relevant pieces of other evidence.
The court has also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim.
