Koraput: A man accused of kidnap and gangrape of a minor girl was sentenced to 35 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) by Special Fast Track and POCSO Court at Jeypore on Monday.
Pronouncing the verdict, Judge Pradip Kumar Sasmal convicted Sundar Roop for kidnapping and gangraping a minor girl of Borrigumma in 2016 and sentenced him to 35 years of RI on three counts.
Judge Sasmal also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on Roop, failing to py which he will have to undergo imprisonment for another 11 months.
Roop, along with a minor boy, had kidnapped the girl and repeatedly raped the victim in the presence of the minor boy. Roop was arrested after a complaint was filed at Borigumma police station by the girl’s reltives.
The fine to be deposited by Roop will be paid to the rape survivor, stated the court in its order.
The court also ordered District Legal Service Authority to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the victim.
