Balasore: The additional district sessions court-2 here found a man guilty of human sacrifice and sentenced him to life imprisonment on Wednesday
Besides pronouncing the rigorous imprisonment, Judge Debashish Rout imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on the convict, Madan Sutar (54).
He was accused to killing his niece.
According to police, the 6-year-old, a resident of Bodhi under Oupada police limits in Balasore district, went missing on April 3, 2017. Four days later, the girl’s body was found floating in the pond of her paternal uncle Madan.
Madan, who had been pratising sorcery, was then arrested for the murder. He later admitted of having called his niece to his house on the pertext of giving her food. He then cut her hand and offered her blood to his deity. After strangulated her with a piece of rope, he then dumped the body in the pond.
Among the 13 witnesses, who deposed before the court, was Madan’s son.
