Bhubaneswar: A young man went missing after jumping into the Kuakhai River from the Tankapani Road Bridge in Bhubaneswar and a massive search operation is underway to rescue him.
The man has been identified as Bhavani Shankar Khatei, aged around 23 years and a resident of Barik Sahi in Old Town.
According to information, Khatei reached the Tankapani Road Bridge on a scooter late on Saturday night. He parked the scooter on the bridge and suddenly jumped into the river.
After receiving information about the incident, fire service teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
However, the Fire Services personnel were yet to trace Khatei. The search operation picked up momentum on Sunday morning.
Police have seized the scooter from the bridge. The reason behind the extreme step taken by the man has not yet been disclosed by his family.
According to preliminary information, the youth was working as a delivery boy. Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident are awaited.
